SPY•Donald Trump said he is waiving many Russia-related sanctions, restrictions and duties days before they were due to take effect under a law he signed last month. The law would have imposed tariffs of up to 100% on goods from certain countries, including major importers of Russian oil or gas.
1. Waiver issued
Trump said on Friday that he is waiving many sanctions, restrictions and duties days before they were to take effect under a bill he signed into law last month. He said in an executive order that he had certified to Congress that issuing the waiver at this time was in the national interest of the United States.
2. Tariff provisions
The law would have imposed tariffs of up to 100% within 30 days on goods from the five largest importers of Russian crude oil or gas, as well as countries knowingly buying Russian oil or gas after the law’s enactment or among the top five countries helping Russia evade sanctions. India, a major buyer of Russian oil, had raised concerns about the legislation.
