Uber expands women-preference feature nationwide via Nissan autonomous partnership

Uber is rolling out its women-preference ride option nationwide after pilots in five cities and a 60-city expansion. The company is finalizing a global deal with Nissan and Wayve to deploy hands-free Level 4 autonomous vehicles by fiscal 2027, underpinned by $1.5bn in funding.

1. Women-Preference Feature Goes Nationwide

Uber is rolling out its women-preference setting across all U.S. markets after piloting the feature in five cities and expanding to 60 locations. The in-app option lets female riders reserve or set a preference to increase the likelihood of matching with women drivers, aiming to enhance rider comfort and perceived safety.

2. Autonomous Ride-Hailing Partnership with Nissan and Wayve

Uber is close to finalizing a global agreement with Nissan Motor and AI startup Wayve Technologies to develop hands-free Level 4 autonomous ride-hailing vehicles. The collaboration targets production launches in fiscal 2027 and is backed by $1.5bn in combined Series D and milestone funding to support end-to-end AI-driven driving systems.
