Uber Targets $1B with Seven New European Markets, Acquires Getir’s Turkish Business
Uber plans to expand delivery into Austria, Denmark, Finland, Norway, the Czech Republic, Greece and Romania by 2026, targeting $1 billion in gross bookings over three years. It also agreed to acquire Getir’s Turkish food delivery business to boost market share and accelerate automation.
1. Europe Delivery Expansion
Uber will launch food and grocery delivery in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Norway, the Czech Republic, Greece and Romania by 2026, aiming to add $1 billion in gross bookings over the subsequent three years. This move pits the company directly against local competitors such as Wolt across key Northern and Central European markets, leveraging its global logistics network to drive customer acquisition.
2. Getir Turkish Unit Acquisition
Uber has agreed to acquire Getir’s food delivery, grocery, retail and water services operations in Türkiye, integrating these into its existing platform. The transaction will expand Uber’s footprint in a fast-growing market, deepen partnerships with restaurants and retailers, and provide incremental delivery volume ahead of the broader European rollout.
3. Automation and Market Share Growth
Uber plans to deploy drones, ground robots and advanced routing algorithms to automate portions of its delivery network, building on a Chicago pilot with Shake Shack. Analysts note significant market share gains in the UK, Germany, France and Spain, and Uber is collaborating on autonomous driving technology to drive long-term cost efficiencies.
