U.S. securities industry profits rose more than 30% to $65.1 billion in 2025. First-half 2026 profits totaled $45.9 billion, up 51.3% year over year; if that growth rate continues, full-year profits could exceed $90 billion.
2. Jobs and city revenue
The industry contributed at least $7.8 billion to New York City’s fiscal 2026 budget, up 15.8% year over year. Employment was 207,400 in 2025, and preliminary data showed the industry was on pace to add more than 5,400 jobs in 2026.
