Vistra Secures 20-Year PPA with Meta for 2,600 MW Nuclear Supply
Vistra signed 20-year power purchase agreements with Meta to supply over 2,600 MW of zero-carbon nuclear energy from its Perry, Davis-Besse and Beaver Valley plants, including 433 MW uprate capacity. The deals underpin Vistra’s plans to seek 20-year license extensions at all three reactors, extending plant operations into 2040s.
1. Long-Term Zero-Carbon Power Purchase Agreement with Meta
Vistra announced a 20-year power purchase agreement to supply more than 2,600 MW of zero-carbon nuclear energy to Meta Platforms beginning in late 2026. The deal consists of 2,176 MW of existing generation from the Perry and Davis-Besse plants in Ohio and 433 MW of incremental output achieved through planned uprates at those two facilities and the Beaver Valley plant in Pennsylvania. This represents the largest nuclear uprate ever supported by a corporate customer in the United States and underpins Meta’s AI infrastructure expansion.
2. License Extensions and Plant Operations
Following its acquisition of the three plants in 2023, Vistra intends to pursue subsequent 20-year license renewals for Perry, Davis-Besse and Beaver Valley. Current NRC licenses run through 2036–2047, and extensions would secure operations through the mid-2040s. Vistra has committed capital for equipment upgrades and uprate projects scheduled through 2034, ensuring reliable, carbon-free baseload capacity for the PJM grid while avoiding previously planned retirements.
3. Economic and Community Impact
The agreements will bolster local economies through tens of millions in annual state and local taxes, community investments and charitable giving. Each plant supports more than 600 full-time jobs (Perry and Davis-Besse) or 750 jobs (Beaver Valley), and the uprate projects are expected to generate approximately 3,000 additional construction and engineering roles over nine years. State and federal officials have praised the deal for preserving high-quality jobs, strengthening grid reliability and fostering regional economic development.
