Wall St futures extend gains after non-farm payrolls data
SPY•U.S. stock index futures extended gains after the economy added 29,000 jobs last month, below economists’ 90,000 estimate, while unemployment was 4.2% versus 4.1% expected. At 8:31 a.m. ET, Dow futures rose 0.85%, S&P 500 futures 0.79% and Nasdaq 100 futures 1.01%.
1. Jobs report lifts futures
U.S. stock index futures extended gains on Friday after a softer-than-expected jobs report reinforced expectations that the Federal Reserve would keep interest rates unchanged at its meeting this month. The Labor Department said the economy added 29,000 jobs last month, compared with economists’ 90,000 estimate, while the unemployment rate was 4.2% versus 4.1% expected.
2. Index futures higher
At 8:31 a.m. ET, Dow E-minis were up 439 points, or 0.85%; S&P 500 E-minis rose 61.25 points, or 0.79%; and Nasdaq 100 E-minis gained 312 points, or 1.01%.
