Wall Street shares notch records as oil prices stabilize, bond yields retreat
SPY•US stocks hit fresh records on Tuesday as oil prices held steady and Treasury yields eased. The S&P 500 rose about 0.6%, Brent settled near $100.60 a barrel, and the 10-year Treasury yield fell 2.7 basis points to 5.28%.
1. US stocks set records
The S&P 500 rose about 0.6% to a fresh record, while the Nasdaq gained 0.45%, also reaching an all-time high. The Dow rose 0.5%, and the pan-European STOXX 600 gained about 0.5%.
2. Oil and bonds ease
Brent crude settled slightly higher at about $100.60 a barrel, while WTI rose 1 cent to $89.44. The 10-year Treasury yield fell 2.7 basis points to 5.28%, and the 30-year yield dipped 0.5 basis points to 5.65%, easing after both touched fresh highs.
3. Earnings in focus
Investors looked ahead to third-quarter earnings, which begin in earnest next week. Goldman Sachs estimated consensus forecasts imply 27% growth in S&P 500 earnings, with more than half coming from companies benefiting from AI infrastructure spending.
