Effective Feb. 1, Walmart’s New U.S. CEO to Oversee 95% Three-Hour Delivery Coverage

Effective Feb. 1, Walmart will appoint four executives—David Guggina as CEO of Walmart U.S., Chris Nicholas as CEO of Walmart International, Latriece Watkins as Sam’s Club U.S. CEO and Seth Dallaire as chief growth officer. Guggina’s eCommerce and supply chain leadership has enabled three-hour delivery to 95% of U.S. households.

1. Retail Powerhouses Face Strategic Divergence

Investors weighing a long-term position must consider that Walmart operates more than 10,750 stores globally, enabling same-day delivery in over 95% of U.S. households and sharply reducing shipping expenses. In contrast, Amazon’s model spans e-commerce, cloud computing through AWS (which grew revenue by 27% in FY 2025), a budding online advertising business that generated an estimated $44 billion last year, and its foray into AI-optimized chips. Walmart’s asset-light expansion of drone delivery—testing operations in five states and fulfilling more than 30,000 orders by year-end—reinforces its strength in physical networks. Amazon’s 229,000-square-foot Chicago megastore and portable “Just Walk Out” kiosks, deployed at over 40 fulfillment centers, highlight its push to blend digital speed with tactile retail. The trade-off for investors is between Walmart’s cost-efficient infrastructure and immediate cash flow versus Amazon’s higher-growth segments and technology-driven margins.

2. Walmart Names New Leadership Team

In a major reorganization effective February 1, Walmart Inc. elevated four executives to guide its next growth phase under incoming CEO John Furner. David Guggina, formerly EVP and chief e-commerce officer for Walmart U.S., will become president and CEO of Walmart U.S., succeeding Furner; under Guggina’s leadership, the division built delivery capabilities serving 95% of U.S. households in under three hours. Chris Nicholas, current president and CEO of Sam’s Club U.S., will lead Walmart International, bringing experience from roles as CFO of Walmart U.S. and CFO of Walmart International and having lived in more than 10 countries. Latriece Watkins, with 29 years at the company and credited with reshaping U.S. merchandising strategy, moves to president and CEO of Sam’s Club U.S. Seth Dallaire, who expanded Walmart U.S. beyond traditional retail and launched new revenue streams including Walmart Connect and Data Ventures, will assume the role of EVP and chief growth officer for the entire enterprise, overseeing global advertising, marketplace platforms and loyalty programs.
