Xiaomi’s YU7 SUV recorded 37,869 deliveries in January, more than double Tesla Model Y’s 16,845 units in China. The Model Y fell to 20th overall and seventh among new energy vehicles as Xiaomi undercut Tesla by 10,000 yuan per unit.

1. YU7 Outperforms Model Y

In January, Xiaomi’s YU7 SUV achieved 37,869 deliveries in China, more than double the 16,845 units delivered by Tesla’s Model Y, dropping the Model Y from first to 20th among all vehicles and seventh among new energy models.

2. Competitive Pricing Edge

Xiaomi launched the YU7 in 2025 with a retail price set 10,000 yuan below the Model Y, enabling the SUV to undercut Tesla on cost while offering comparable features in the Chinese market.

3. Tesla’s China Market Challenge

The Model Y’s sales slump marks its first fall from monthly leadership, intensifying pressure on Tesla to adjust pricing, ramp up promotions or introduce new variants to reclaim market share in its largest region.
