Abbott Secures CE Mark for Libre Duo Dual Sensor with 15- and 10-Day Wear
ABT•Abbott secured CE Mark for Libre Duo and Libre Duo 10 Day, the first dual continuous glucose-ketone sensors with up to 15 or 10 days of wear. Devices measure both analytes every minute, integrate with the Libre ecosystem, and launch in select European markets later this year.
1. CE Mark Approval for Dual Sensing
Abbott received CE Mark for Libre Duo and Libre Duo 10 Day, marking the first biowearables that continuously measure glucose and ketones in a single sensor. The 15-day sensor is cleared for adults 18 and older, while the 10-day model is approved for users ages 2 and above.
2. Continuous Glucose and Ketone Monitoring Benefits
Libre Duo systems sample glucose and ketone levels every minute, eliminating the need for separate blood or urine ketone tests. Real-time ketone alerts aim to help people with diabetes intervene before ketone levels escalate to diabetic ketoacidosis.
3. Integration and European Launch Plans
Sensors integrate with the Libre digital ecosystem, enabling data sharing with caregivers and healthcare teams, and are engineered to connect with leading automated insulin delivery pumps. Abbott plans to roll out Libre Duo systems in select European markets later this year.
4. Addressing Rising DKA Rates in Diabetes Care
Hospitalizations for diabetic ketoacidosis have climbed roughly 55% over the last decade, underscoring a growing unmet need for ketone monitoring. Libre Duo’s dual sensing approach could reduce DKA incidents and fortify Abbott’s competitive edge in the global glucose monitoring market.
