Alphabet to Replace Verizon in Dow, Boosting AI and Cloud Exposure

The index provider announced that Alphabet will replace Verizon in the 30-stock Dow Jones Industrial Average effective June 29 before market open. This move makes Alphabet the fifth mega-cap technology company in the price-weighted benchmark, joining Microsoft, Apple, Amazon and Nvidia.

Alphabet shares gained 0.40% in premarket trading on the announcement as index funds tracking the Dow prepare to rebalance. Verizon’s roughly 0.5% weight in the index will be removed, reflecting the impact of the price-weighted methodology on low-priced shares.
