Apple says it will replace iPhone Duo units showing screen problems
AAPL•Apple said it will replace a small number of iPhone Duo units with inner-display problems, after users posted images of cracks and lines near the hinge.
1. Replacement offer
Apple said Monday that a small number of iPhone Duo units have inner-display problems and advised affected users to contact AppleCare for a replacement. The company said affected units tend to show the problem quickly, but did not comment on its cause.
2. Damage near hinge
Social media posts over the weekend showed cracks and lines in the inner display along the central hinge. Repair firm iFixit said its simulations found reported damage clustered near a display cable and central support bar, which might create a stress hotspot as the phone folds.
3. Launch and response
Apple began shipping the foldable iPhone Duo last week, with initial online orders selling out in minutes. IDC vice president Francisco Jeronimo called the replacement offer the “right first step” in responding to the problems.
