AST SpaceMobile Shares Jump 3% Overnight as EU Favors Local Satellite JV
ASTS•AST SpaceMobile shares rose 3% overnight and 62% this month as European Commission prepares to prioritize domestic satellite operators over U.S. rivals in upcoming spectrum allocations. The move spotlights the AST-Vodafone Satellite Connect Europe JV deploying ground stations in five markets to deliver direct-to-device LEO connectivity.
1. EU Spectrum Policy Shift
The European Commission plans to adopt a decision on Wednesday that will prioritize domestic satellite operators in future spectrum allocations, aiming to reduce reliance on non-European systems such as Starlink and Project Kuiper and strengthen regional tech sovereignty.
2. AST SpaceMobile Stock Rally
AST SpaceMobile shares soared 3% in overnight trading, marking a 62% gain this month and following a 13% jump in the prior session, as investors anticipate increased market access under the new spectrum regime.
3. Satellite Connect Europe Deployment
The Vodafone-backed Satellite Connect Europe venture, launched in February between AST SpaceMobile and Vodafone, is deploying ground stations across five European markets including Spain and the UK to enable direct-to-device LEO connectivity on standard 4G and 5G smartphones without specialized hardware.
