Biogen's experimental lupus drug shows benefit against skin symptoms
BIIB•Biogen said its experimental drug litifilimab improved skin symptoms in a mid-stage study of cutaneous lupus erythematosus: 27.2% of participants had clear or almost clear skin after one year, compared with 19% at 24 weeks.
1. Skin symptoms improved
In a mid-stage study enrolling 93 adults, 27.2% of participants who received litifilimab from the trial’s beginning had clear or almost clear skin after one year, up from 19% at 24 weeks. Nearly 29% achieved at least a 70% reduction in skin disease activity at week 52, compared with 21.7% at week 24.
2. Safety and next results
Biogen said litifilimab was generally well tolerated, with no new safety concerns identified. Common side effects included cold-like infections, influenza and joint pain. The company expects results from the late-stage part of the study in the first half of 2027.
