Ericsson Powers VTel’s First Nationwide 5G Standalone VoNR Roaming Service
VTel Wireless selected Ericsson to deploy a cloud-native dual-mode 5G Core and RAN, enabling the first rural carrier to offer nationwide 5G Standalone Voice over New Radio roaming. The end-to-end 5G SA network eliminates 4G VoLTE underlays and lets national CSP subscribers maintain full 5G quality in remote regions.
1. Ericsson Selected for VTel’s 5G Standalone Deployment
VTel Wireless chose Ericsson as its 5G Core and Radio Access Network provider to build a fully standalone network, marking the first rural carrier deployment supporting end-to-end 5G Voice over New Radio roaming with national communications service providers.
2. Cloud-Native Dual-Mode Core and Advanced RAN
Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G Core and cloud-native infrastructure solution will replace legacy dependencies on 4G LTE VoLTE underlays, enabling native 5G roaming, heightened network flexibility and seamless integration of future 5G innovations.
3. Enhancing Rural Connectivity and Digital Inclusion
The deployment lets subscribers of major CSPs maintain consistent 5G SA service in Vermont’s rural communities, supporting performance, reliability and broadband access for residents and visitors in remote areas.
4. Blueprint for Nationwide Rural Roaming Expansion
In partnership with Xtreme Enterprises, Ericsson’s solution will be scaled to more than 50 independent fixed wireless providers, creating a replicable model for extending 5G SA VoNR roaming across ultra-remote regions in the United States.
