Fluke Rolls Out SmartTrace 2082 Series with CAT IV 600V, 6m Deep Detection

FTVFTV

Fortive subsidiary Fluke introduced the SmartTrace 2082 Series underground locators integrated with ProStar’s PointMan app, enabling precise detection of buried cables and pipes up to 6 meters deep and real-time geolocation documentation. The CAT IV 600V transmitter and fault-finding capabilities aim to cut 400,000-800,000 annual utility strikes and boost field efficiency.

1. Launch of SmartTrace 2082 Series

Fluke unveiled its new SmartTrace 2082 Series of underground locators, pairing precision tracing technology with ProStar’s PointMan mapping app. The integrated solution allows field teams to inject signals up to 6 meters deep, capture location data via Bluetooth and document buried assets digitally in real time.

2. Advanced Technical Features

The SmartTrace system features the only CAT IV 600V transmitter on the market, automatic function selection based on accessories, selectable frequencies for fault detection, and an A-Frame and clamp for sheath and ground fault pinpointing. These capabilities enable accurate depth, path and fault identification on metallic conductors under varying field conditions.

3. Strategic and Operational Impact

By addressing industry challenges—such as the 400,000-800,000 annual utility strikes—the SmartTrace solution aims to reduce costly damage, enhance worker safety and improve project timelines. The integration with PointMan’s geolocation platform positions Fortive to capture a larger share of the underground utilities market by offering a complete hardware-software ecosystem.
