1. Germany maintains sanctions
Germany said it would maintain sanctions against Russia following Trump's announcement that his administration had temporarily lifted US sanctions on Russian fuel. Government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius said Germany remained committed to existing sanctions and was working with European partners on further measures.
2. Support for Ukraine unchanged
Kornelius said Germany's support for Ukraine was unchanged and diplomatic efforts to reach a solution would continue. Trump said Russia had agreed to supply diesel to global markets in an effort to lower fuel prices. Diesel prices have risen to near-record levels, and Chancellor Friedrich Merz has repeatedly said Germany would not reduce its support for Kyiv.
