Immunic Appoints Genentech Vet Erik Lundgren as CEO Ahead of Phase 3 MS Trials
IMUX•Immunic named Erik Lundgren, formerly SVP Commercial Portfolio at Genentech, as CEO to steer vidofludimus calcium through its pivotal Phase 3 ENSURE trial in relapsing MS and upcoming primary progressive MS study. Board chair Michael Bonney cited Lundgren’s leadership in launching Ocrevus as vital for Immunic’s push toward commercialization.
1. Leadership Change
Immunic has appointed Erik Lundgren as CEO, succeeding Daniel Vitt, who will continue as scientific strategy lead and board member. Board chair Michael Bonney emphasized Lundgren’s ability to guide the company through its transition to a commercial-stage biotech.
2. Pipeline Advancements
Immunic is advancing vidofludimus calcium, an oral therapy for relapsing and primary progressive multiple sclerosis. The company is conducting the pivotal Phase 3 ENSURE program in RMS and plans to initiate a Phase 3 PPMS trial later this year.
3. Commercialization Expertise
Lundgren joins from Genentech, where he served as SVP Commercial Portfolio and led the launch of Ocrevus for MS and oncology products like Kadcyla. His decade-plus tenure in commercial leadership roles is expected to de-risk Immunic’s market entry strategy.
