Intel and Hitachi Launch Five-Pillar AI Collaboration on Foundry, Quantum and Energy
INTC•Hitachi and Intel launched a strategic collaboration across five pillars—foundry tools, quantum computing, energy optimization, custom silicon and edge-AI—to develop next-generation compute capabilities and industry solutions. Hitachi will deploy ExTOPE and HMAX Energy in Intel’s fabs while Intel supplies high-voltage chips to boost predictive diagnostics, yield and infrastructure resilience.
1. Strategic Collaboration Framework
In June 2026, Intel and Hitachi unveiled a collaboration targeting five strategic pillars—foundry tools, quantum computing, energy optimization, custom silicon and edge-AI applications—to co-develop compute architectures, industry-specific solutions and advanced automation aimed at modernizing manufacturing, energy, mobility and infrastructure systems.
2. Foundry Tools and Quantum Efforts
Hitachi will integrate data from its CD-SEMs and ExTOPE metrology platform into Intel’s fabrication operations to drive predictive diagnostics, yield improvements and faster time-to-market, while joint R&D teams will accelerate quantum computing technology development for commercial applications.
3. Energy Optimization, Custom Silicon and Edge-AI
The partnership will deploy Hitachi’s HMAX Energy service in Intel’s fabs alongside Intel’s high-voltage silicon chips to enhance power efficiency and resilience, and will explore co-design of custom silicon, factory automation and edge-AI solutions for industrial and mobility use cases.
