MACOM Launches 448G Drivers with 120 GHz Bandwidth for 3.2T Transceivers

MTSIMTSI

MACOM launched two 448G PAM4 modulator drivers enabling 400G per lane transmission for 1.6T and 3.2T optical transceivers with industry-leading energy efficiency. The MAOM-025408 Mach-Zehnder and MAOM-022404 EML drivers deliver over 120 GHz RF bandwidth in wire-bondable or flip-chip packaging without external bias components.

1. Product Announcement

On March 17, MACOM unveiled its new 448G PAM4 MAOM-025408 Mach-Zehnder and MAOM-022404 EML modulator drivers designed for 1.6T and 3.2T optical transceivers, marking its first products to support 400G per lane transmission.

2. Performance and Features

Both drivers deliver over 120 GHz of RF bandwidth, high gain and excellent linearity, with the EML variant optimized for low power consumption and compatibility with differential EML and TFLN modulators.

3. Packaging and Integration Benefits

Available as wire-bondable die or compact flip-chip packaging, the drivers require no external bias components, simplifying integration and reducing bill of materials for module manufacturers.

4. Market Applications and Outlook

These products target high capacity AI, machine learning and HPC data center networks, offering energy-efficient connectivity that could strengthen MACOM’s position in next-generation optical transceiver markets.
