Novo Nordisk disclosed unauthorized access to internal systems on June 11, with hackers claiming to exfiltrate 1.3TB of proprietary data across 700,000 files after rejecting a $25 million ransom demand. Stolen information includes clinical trial records, proprietary drug formulas, manufacturing operations data and AI model files.
On June 11 Novo Nordisk detected unauthorized access to internal IT systems and confirmed hackers made a $25 million ransom demand after infiltrating via a compromised GitHub token.
Hackers claim to have exfiltrated approximately 1.3 terabytes spanning over 700,000 files, including source code, clinical trial records, proprietary drug formulas and manufacturing operations data.
Novo Nordisk notified authorities, affirmed no disruption to core platforms, and engaged cybersecurity teams to contain the breach after initial contact with the extortion group on June 3.
The theft of AI model files and pipeline compound information could expose intellectual property, trigger regulatory scrutiny and erode investor confidence in future drug discovery efforts.
