PayPal Reorganises into Three Divisions, Elevates Venmo to Standalone Unit
PayPal reorganises into three units—Checkout Solutions, Consumer Financial Services & Venmo, and Payment Services & Crypto—making Venmo a standalone division under head Alexis Sowa. Frank Keller and Jeff Pomeroy lead Checkout Solutions and Payment Services & Crypto; Anshu Bhardwaj becomes chief AI officer; Diego Scotti and Michelle Gill depart.
1. Reorganisation into Three Operating Units
PayPal has streamlined its structure into three distinct units: Checkout Solutions, Consumer Financial Services & Venmo, and Payment Services & Crypto. This simplified model is intended to sharpen focus on core growth areas and improve operational efficiency across each division.
2. Leadership Appointments
Frank Keller has been named president of Checkout Solutions, overseeing merchant and consumer payment flows. Jeff Pomeroy will lead the Payment Services & Crypto unit, while Anshu Bhardwaj steps into the newly created role of chief AI officer to drive technological innovation. Alexis Sowa heads the standalone Venmo division.
3. Executive Departures
Longtime executives Diego Scotti and Michelle Gill are exiting PayPal as part of the reorganisation. Scotti led Venmo’s growth and monetisation efforts, while Gill managed the Small Business & Financial Services group, leaving gaps in consumer and merchant services leadership.
4. Strategic Objectives and Outlook
The overhaul aims to accelerate execution of long-term growth priorities, streamline decision-making and enhance accountability. Further details on performance targets and financial impact will be provided during PayPal’s earnings call scheduled for May 5.
