Regeneron Expands CytomX Cancer Antibody Partnership to $4 Billion Deal
REGN•Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and CytomX have expanded their 2022 research and licensing partnership to develop conditionally activated bispecific antibodies, boosting potential deal value to $4 billion. Under revised terms, Regeneron will fund development while CytomX receives a $37 million nomination payment for two targets and can earn royalties plus further milestones.
1. Partnership Expansion Details
Regeneron and CytomX have extended their original 2022 collaboration to include new bispecific antibody targets, raising the deal's potential value to up to $4 billion. This expansion focuses on leveraging combined platforms to address hard-to-treat tumor types with conditionally activated therapies.
2. Financial Terms
Under the revised agreement, Regeneron will fund all preclinical, clinical and commercial activities. CytomX receives a $37 million target nomination payment for two newly selected targets, retains eligibility for global net sales royalties and may earn further milestone payments, with Regeneron holding options on up to six future targets.
3. Technology and Strategic Impact
The collaboration merges CytomX’s Probody biologic masking technology with Regeneron’s proprietary Veloci-Bi bispecific platform to create T-cell engagers that remain inactive until proteases in the tumor microenvironment trigger activation. This approach aims to enhance both safety and efficacy in challenging oncology indications.
4. Recent Strategic Collaborations
Last month, Regeneron signed a $2.32 billion research collaboration with Parabilis Medicines to develop antibody-Helicon peptide conjugates, highlighting its broader strategy to diversify immunotherapy pipelines and pioneer novel treatment modalities.
