Saudi says Riyadh airport partly reopens despite renewed Houthi threats
USO•Saudi Arabia said Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport resumed operations at two terminals on Sunday, despite Houthi threats to keep targeting the facility. Flight tracking data showed little traffic, as Saudi Arabia reported intercepting missiles and drones and two people were injured by shrapnel.
1. Airport partially reopens
King Khalid International Airport had halted operations on October 10 after an attack claimed by the Houthis killed 13 people. Saudi authorities designated Terminal 1 for domestic flights and Terminal 2 for international flights operated by national carriers, but flight tracking data showed little traffic on Sunday. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the airport remained a “military target” and urged airlines, airport staff and travellers not to use it.
2. Attacks continue
Saudi civil defense said shrapnel from the interception of two ballistic missiles over Khamis Mushait and Ahad Rafidah injured two people and damaged homes and vehicles. The coalition said it intercepted missiles and drones launched toward Riyadh and southern Saudi Arabia. The renewed fighting has shattered a UN-brokered truce that had largely held since 2022, and the Houthis also said they attacked Saudi oil facilities on Saturday.
