Standard Lithium ups Trafigura offtake option to 12,000 tonnes a year for South West Arkansas project
SLI•Standard Lithium’s Smackover Lithium venture increased Trafigura’s offtake option for its South West Arkansas lithium carbonate project to 12,000 metric tonnes a year for 10 years, from 8,000. The company said potential commitments total 20,000 tonnes a year, while project debt financing targets about $1.1 billion and first production is expected in 2029.
1. Trafigura option expanded
Smackover Lithium expanded Trafigura’s offtake options for the South West Arkansas lithium carbonate project. The volume can rise to 12,000 metric tonnes a year for 10 years, up from 8,000, on a take-or-pay basis. The additional 4,000 tonnes a year remains optional at Smackover Lithium’s election, allowing it to place those volumes with other customers.
2. Project commitments and timing
Potential commitments total 20,000 metric tonnes a year, including 8,000 tonnes with LG Energy Solution, above the project’s 18,000-tonne target. Project debt financing work continues, with a target of about $1.1 billion. Final investment decision remains targeted for later this year, with first production in 2029.
